Planets & Stars Scrapbook Page

A few days ago, I looked at the sticker collection I made and I felt inspired yet again by the stars and planets. Fun fact about me, I have always had a thing for astronomy. No, not astroLOGY - the one about the zodiac signs, but astroNOMY - the science one. Well, that's where the inspiration for the stickers and now this scrapbook page comes from. In this post, I will let you know the secret of how I made my inspiration materialize.

Planets and stars

1) Choosing the colors and items

This one is probably the easiest part for me. I usually just choose a few colors and then take everything crafty I have in these colors - papers, pens, stickers and so on. This one was easy, since I already had the stickers in mind, and they were blue and purple (my favorite colors). Since the theme is stars and planets, I knew the background had to be black. I grabbed everything in these colors and set them aside, which makes the first step complete.

2) Deciding on the focus of the page

Usually, my main focus of the page is something I write, but I couldn't decide if I wanted to write anything this time. By the time I was supposed to start already, I didn't have any inspiration for that, so I skipped it. My vision was a black page with white stars, so I finally decided to put that in the center of the page. I wanted to do constellation, but not zodiac ones (refer to the first paragraph) and after browsing the images for a while, I settled on the Ursa Minor, Draco and Cepheus. First reason for this was their shape - not too complicated but interesting enough. Second reason was Polaris, the North Star - one of the most important stars historically and one of the stars in the Ursa Minor constellation. After marking the stars with a pencil while looking at the reference picture, I connected them with a white pen and voila! There was my start and my focus of the page.

3) Framing pieces

I'll be honest, I have no idea how exactly I should call the pieces that go near the edges of the page. Let's call them framing pieces. Although my other scrapbook pages usually don't follow this kind of 'structure', I almost always use some pieces of paper in my chosen colors and some of them go to the edges of the page. This was no exception to that, so my next step was rather easy - tear the purple and blue paper and glue it on the edges of the paper. For the rest of the empty space, I wanted to use a purple sticker from a sticker book I bought online and the one I chose was in my opinion fitting the theme. I also knew I wanted to use some washi tape and the right edge of the page seemed like the perfect place for that. Solid purple one and gradient blue-purple star themed one seemed like the obvious choice and I got my pretty constellations framed.

4) Stencils and stars

If you're anything like me, you can't really draw that well. Like, yes, some things turn out decent sometimes, but for the most part you'd rather have some help. That's why stencils are a life saver. I bought a bunch of them online and in this page I used them to help me draw some stars. Also, I decided to add a bookmark at the top right, right next to the washi tapes. Of course, I used the same white pen to draw these. I felt like I needed something shiny at the bottom, and added a silver paper, cut with wavy scissors. Although my boyfriend said it doesn't quite fit, I disagree because ✨shiny✨.

5) Stickers 💙

Finally, we come to the inspiration for the page. The stickers! Now, these are the stickers that I have created myself and even though I know exactly which ones I have, it took me a while to choose which ones will go on which part of the page. I wanted a good balance of mostly purple ones and mostly blue ones, at least one with rings and some with satellites which wasn't an easy task at all. I also wanted the galaxy sticker - the round one with stars, and it all had to somehow work together. In the end, I think I did a good job, and I'm personally very happy about how it turned out.

6) Finishing touches

Lastly, I added a bunch of white dots to represent the far away stars. I added them wherever I felt like something was missing, including near the edges and corners. It almost felt finished, but then I heard these dark blue stars calling my name - and I had to put them somewhere... At least I didn't overdo it (this time).

In the end, I took a few photos of my finished product and put it in my scrapbook binder, ending my creative journey for that day.

So, how do you like my scrapbook page? How do you like this post? Was it funny, entertaining, inspiring? Let me know so that my next ones can be even better!

Until next time, have a great week! 😊😄
